Our Mission

Our mission is to build strong and vibrant African communities by creating a central hub that connects individuals and groups with the resources they need to thrive.

We aim to provide information, tools and services that promote empowerment and inclusion for all African communities, with a focus on education, health, housing and employment.

What We Do

AfroConnect’s overarching purpose is to create a hub that provides sustainable support for members of the African communities in New Zealand.

Support

Innovate, develop and improve to meet the needs of the communities by providing high quality, diverse learning and development opportunities, and relevant information, guidance, advice and resources through a one-stop hub.

Influence

Influence policy that affects the community by strongly advocating for the contribution of the communities to the governing bodies, and providing opportunities to engage with policy makers.

Invest

Continuously improve to provide the best services to the community — putting in place excellent governance arrangements, building resources and seeking opportunities to diversify funding streams.

Community

Understand community needs and align community expectations with AfroConnect realities, developing collaborative relations to establish opportunities and analysing the needs of the community.

Who can benefit from AfroConnect NZ?
AfroConnect NZ is designed to support and serve individuals of African descent residing in New Zealand.
Where are you located?
Our trustees are based in Hamilton; however, we are committed to supporting individuals throughout New Zealand. While we currently don’t have a physical premises, we work across Aotearoa.
What does AfroConnect NZ do?
AfroConnect NZ addresses the cultural, social, professional and academic needs of the African community in New Zealand. We also advocate for the community.
Who runs AfroConnect NZ?
AfroConnect NZ is guided by a dedicated board of trustees who have supported the organisation since its inception. We are actively seeking volunteers interested in contributing.
Are you a registered charity?
While we are not currently registered with the Charities Services, we operate as an incorporated charitable trust board.
How can I get involved or offer support?
We welcome volunteers to maximise the impact of our grants and donations. If you or someone you know is available to volunteer, we would love to hear from you.
How is AfroConnect NZ funded?
AfroConnect NZ operates as a charitable trust. Our events are primarily funded through grants, sponsors and donors. We also rely heavily on volunteers.
